Kazakhstan  is a unitary dominant-party republic located in the central region of the Asian continent. The capital of Kazakhstan is Nur-Sultan while the largest city is Almaty. Kazakhstan is the largest country in Central Asia and the ninth largest in the world. Between its most distant points, Kazakhstan measures about 1,820 miles (2,930 kilometres) east to west and 960 miles north to south.

1. Aktau

Aktau is the almost 40-year-old city overlooking the great Caspian Sea. It fascinates tourists with its beauty and among the most serene visiting places. The World War II Memorial, Botanical Garden, Regional Museum, Costa Cafe, seafront, Taras Shevchenko Statue, multi-colored mountains in Altyn-Emel National Park, etc. are the popular and major tourist attractions in Aktau.

2.Almaty

Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest metropolis, is set in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. It served as the country’s capital until 1997 and remains Kazakhstan’s trading and cultural hub. 9% of the countries population located in one city, it is certainly a hustling and bustling place to be. The city is still the centre of commerce for Kazakhstan, with the stock exchange and largest banks located.   The backdrop of mountains against the taller buildings makes a dramatic and impressive sight .

3. Taraz

The town of Taraz (Talas) (“City of Merchants”) is more than 2000 years old. It reached its zenith in the 10-12th centuries, when it was famous as the capital of the Karakhan State. Taraz is a city and the administrative center of Jambyl Region in Kazakhstan, located on the Talas (Taraz) River in the south of the country near the border. It lies at the junction of the Talas River and the Turk-Sib Railway. Taraz is one of the oldest towns of Kazakhstan. 

4. Shymkent

Shymkent is the capital city of South Kazakhstan Province, the most populated region in Kazakhstan. It is near the border with Uzbekistan. It is the third most populous city in Kazakhstan behind Almaty and Nur-Sultan .  It is a major railroad junction on the Turkestan-Siberia Railway and a notable cultural center and has also an international airport. Shymkent  has more of a Central Asian buzz on its leafy streets than anywhere else in the country.
